Alex & Kieran's St Joseph's Subiaco Wedding

When I first met Alex in store and we started looking for her wedding dress, I was hoping I could convince her to try on a very simple but beautifully cut crepe wedding gown, that had just arrived!  Alex was looking stunning in every dress she put on! A modern, red carpet bride from the very start! I loved every minute that I spent with Alex in my store. It's no wonder her family and friends adore her!

THE DRESS "I think your dress tends to be the deciding factor for many of your design decisions for the rest of your wedding, and I wanted our wedding to be formal but have a slightly relaxed or uncomplicated feel to match with our at home wedding. I was so lucky to have had Samantha Wynne as my first and only bridal dress try on! Initially I tried on a few sheer but detailed dresses and as much as I loved them on the hanger, when I tried them on they just weren’t right for me. Samantha brought out the fifth dress which wasn’t supposed to be on the floor yet, and was completely different to what I thought I wanted and it was my dress! It was a simple, form fitting Pronovias but with a simple sheer side down the legs, with minimal beading, which spoke to what I had thought I wanted but in smaller, more delicate way. As soon as I tried that dress on, I didn’t want to look anymore, I loved it so much and didn’t want to cloud my judgment and become indecisive!"

HOW DID YOU FIRST MEET? "We first met when I’d decided to take a years break from uni. I was working in an Irish pub and having the time of my life on a gap year. He came in for dinner one night and well, he came back in every night for dinner after that and that was it!"

THE PROPOSAL "From what I heard from my family after, he spent a lot of time on getting the ring perfect. My mums wedding ring had been like twisted gold rope and I’d mentioned to him before that if ever we were to get engaged I would love if it incorporated something of her in it too. So when he proposed on a hike at John Forest park, I was so completely shocked and over the moon."

FAVOURITE MOMENT "We had the absolute best wedding day and there was nothing that was going to ruin it, even if the priest was 20 minutes late and we had to drive around the block 5 times before he arrived! I think the most amazing part of the day though was that his family and mine had never met before so for us it was a super special moment to have everyone we loved, from all corners of the world, all in the one place. To be surrounded by everyone you love so dearly was overwhelming and something that will probably never happen again but we’ll cherish always."

THE VENUE "Initially, the venue search was hard. There were so many beautiful locations but we didn’t want to be kicked out at 11.30pm so we decided to do it at home, have a relaxed atmosphere with an amazing band, and just let loose!"

FAVOURITE DETAILS "My dad was really amazing in the planning process since my mum is no longer with us. We had one of her wedding earrings but didn’t have the other. Dad had the matching one made so that I would have something old and something new on the wedding day. Samantha also knew I didn’t have my mum with me, so on one of my final dress fittings, she surprised me with a custom veil with details to compliment my dress, I was absolutely blown away by her thoughtfulness and complete care. Those would definitely have to be my most favourite details and things I’ll hopefully to get pass on one day too. "

ADVICE FOR FUTURE BRIDES "Record your wedding! I didn’t even think of anyone filming it but now wish more than anything we had! Also, don’t sweat the small stuff and just enjoy spending time with all those that will love being a part of this phase with you. And, your wedding style doesn’t define who you are. Your ideas for what flowers you want or what invites you’ve chosen will probably change in the years to come as new styles come through, so just choose what you love now."

BEST WEDDING SPEND "The best wedding spend was the food and the flowers and the band and the makeup and the dress and everything really! We had a cocktail style wedding but I wanted to make sure everyone was still looked after. Ultimo did an amazing job, they catered to every need. Absolutely nothing was left over! Alexandra Cohen did the best job on our photos, she made us feel so comfortable, and have a laugh! Donna from Verbena Flowers, Alex from Perth Festoon Lighting, the Hire Society and Reece’s transformed our home into the most amazing venue."
